Stronger Together: A Retreat for Women Serving or Who Have Served in the Military

Today’s military women play powerful roles in our nation’s security and have equally important strengths to bring to our country as veterans. Nevertheless, it is not unusual for women active military and veterans to feel cut-off from the sense of camaraderie and cohesion more commonly experienced by their male counterparts. In addition, the challenges that women face while on active duty and as veterans have not received the attention that would promote optimal reintegration into the veteran and civilian communities.

This women-only retreat for the military-veteran community (active duty, reserve, guard, and all branches of the uniformed services) focuses on the unique issues that come from women’s military service (including invisible wounds) and builds a safe and supportive environment to explore both the strengths, resilience, concerns, and vulnerabilities of women who have served.

Led by two experienced military-veterans advocates—Brigadier General (Ret.) Loree Sutton, MD and Laurie Leitch, PhD., Co-directors of Threshold GlobalWorks, as well as guest teachers, the retreat will provide a variety of experiential activities including group dialogue, yoga and other restorative health practices, journaling, creative arts, and resiliency skill-building training. There will also be free-time for enjoying the healing space that is so abundant at the Omega Institute. The retreat provides an opportunity to build friendships, share and learn from others, and build practical tools for thriving. All activities are designed to nurture mind, body, and spirit in behalf of maximizing strength and quality of life.

*This program is underwritten and open to all active or inactive duty military women and women veterans. Limited to 30 participants. The participant is responsible for $75 of the tuition, room, and board. Please note that the retreat is not a substitute for psychotherapy.
