See the 5 SRM Video Seminars for First Responders!

May 4, 2020

Not a day goes by that we don’t hear heartwrenching stories about the challenges faced by our dedicated first responders. Facing unprecedented life and death decisions the heroism they have displayed and the determination they have shown will never be forgotten. Many of us undoubtedly ask ourselves regularly, “Is there anything I can do to help make a difference?”

A colleague and I have joined forces in an effort to support these workers. Cynda Rushton, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, at Johns Hopkins University’s Berman Institute for Bioethics and I have recently completed a 5-part video series focused on healthcare worker wellness during the COVID-19 pandemic. The seminars are intentionally a brief 15 minutes each because of the limited time our healthcare workers have. They need something practical and easily applied to their work (and home) settings. Although the series has been developed for The Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 website and focuses in its examples on healthcare workers, the videos will be of use to other first-responder groups and in any work settings in which health risks, supply shortages, and overload generate high levels of stress, distress, and even trauma. Our Vision

We envision a world where it is the norm, rather than the exception, for human beings to live into their full potential and make life-affirming contributions to the whole.
