Lot’s Happening!

Feb 20, 2023

Here at TGW we do have a LOT happening. As you can see on our cover page, my book, Brain Gain: Timely Tools to Tackle Life’s Heavy Lifting, is coming out in March. It is a practical book that describes and applies the neuroscience information and skills that are the foundation for the Social Resilience Model (SRM) and that includes lots of examples of how to apply the information. SRM is now also called Brain Gain Program (BGP). The new name seems to be a better description of what it is and is livelier, too. Watch Amazon for the paperback, ebook, and audiobook. The first week of the book’s launch on 3/28 the ebook is 99 cents…quite a bargain!

We have a website for the book that will be available soon. You can find it on www.BrainGainProject.com. The website will include a description of the SRM/BGP classes that will be offered later this year and a way to sign up for them.

TGW trainer David Auble has spearheaded our fundraising  for the Friends for Ukraine (FFU) and been able to ship a wide array of supplies that they requested. They have started a center for children with autism and the supplies are suitable for their special needs. We have linked them to our colleagues at Novalis Trust in the UK. Novalis Trust has opened a center for autism in the Cotswolds and may be able to contribute their expertise to FFU.

This is a busy time for TGW on the training front. I’ll mention just a few: We have a second cohort of folks in a Train the Trainer Program from the Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) based in Dayton, Ohio. The first cohort has trained over 900 people across many county agencies in SRM. One of our new trainers says, “I’m not exaggerating when I say in a lot of ways SRM opened a whole new world for me as far as coping with and managing my stress.” This trainer has developed a blog of her own with lots of useful SRM applications described. You can see one at http://bloomingresilient.com/2022/12/07/daily-resilience-tool-of-attention. Good work, Daejanna!

It is always gratifying when TGW is asked back by groups and organizations we have previously trained. A few of these programs are: Our work in the U.K. with Novalis Trust is continuing this year. We are currently training staff at the Chine School, a residential school for children with special needs, to teach from our skills card. It is gratifying to see SRM/BGP being utilized throughout the school as well as by the staff for self-care. Next month we are starting a series at Evergreen State College’s prison education program. And, a similar program in New York City, The John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s Navigator Program, will incorporate SRM/BGP for its 9Th cohort. And, We have been asked by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health to provide additional training in 2023 in SRM/BGP. We trained a group of 30 SRM trainers from DMH in 2021-22.

Here at TGW we count our blessings for being able to contribute to the healing and resilience of so many diverse groups of wonderful people!
